GUIYANG, CHINA – Panamerican Boxing Confederation (PBC) proudly celebrates a thrilling conclusion to the Quarterfinal phase at the World Boxing Cup - Stage 2 in Guiyang, China, where our regional powerhouses secured six massive victories today to guarantee themselves a place on the podium. Moving forward, a stellar contingent of eight Pan American boxers will compete tomorrow, June 20, for a coveted spot in the tournament finals.

June 19 Quarterfinal Session Highlights & Results

PBC athletes engaged in high-octane battles earlier today, producing dominant clean sweeps and hard-fought split decision victories:

  • Elite Women's 65Kg: Beatriz Ferreira (BRA) showed her world-class championship pedigree, grinding out a spectacular 3:2 split decision victory over China’s Shu Li in front of a hostile home crowd.

  • Men's 55Kg: Lorenzo Patricio (USA) executed a flawless gameplan, dictating the pace from the opening bell to earn a clear unanimous decision sweep over Mongolia’s Bilguunsaikhan Kharkhuu.

  • Men's 60Kg: Brazil's Luiz Gabriel Oliveira bested Keoma Al-Ahmadieh (CAN) in a clash between two of Pan America's best by unanimous decision.

  • Men's 65Kg: Marcus Luther (USA) put on a clinical performance to outclass Germany’s Mohamed Siala, advancing to the semifinals with a dominant unanimous decision victory.

  • Elite Men's 80Kg: In a thrilling all-Pan American quarterfinal clash, Wanderley Pereira (BRA) edged past fellow continental standout Josh Ofori (CAN) in a high-level 4:1 tactical battle.

  • Elite Men's 90+Kg: Joel Ramos (BRA) dominated the super heavyweight division today, imposing his power to secure a perfect 5:0 shutout against Poland’s Jakub Domurad.

Other courageous efforts from the continent included narrow losses against top international seeds. Olailyn Alcala (VEN) came up just short in a 1:4 split decision loss to China’s Ziyi Chen. Marie Rosendo (USA) fell 1:4 to Kazakhstan’s Aida Abikeyeva, while Mexico’s Darianne Hernandez dropped an incredibly close 2:3 split decision to England's Sacha Hickey. Noelle Haro (USA) dropped a decision to China's Yu Wu, Jessica Coutinho (BRA) fell to Uzbekistan's Nigina Uktamova by 5:0 decision, and Isabella Winkler (USA) came up short against England's Chantelle Reid. Salim Ellis-Bey (USA) was defeated by #1 seed Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan by unanimous decision. Venezuela’s Krisandy Rios dropped the narrowest of a 2:3 split decision to Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova. Viviane Pereira (BRA) fell just short in a 2:3 split decision to Australia's Lekeisha Pergolitti.

The quest for gold reaches its penultimate stage tomorrow, June 20. Eight PBC boxers will anchor an electric day of semifinal boxing across two action-packed sessions:

Session 12 — Ring B (Starting 12:00 local time)

  • Bout 1 - Women's 48Kg: Fatima Herrera (MEX) vs. Jyoti Jyoti (IND)

  • Bout 4 - Men's 60Kg: William Hewitt (ENG) vs. Luiz Gabriel (BRA)

  • Bout 3 - Men's 55Kg: Nikhil Nikhil (IND) vs. Lorenzo Patricio (USA)
