Panamerican Boxing Confederation Announces Ringside Physician Certification Course

Panama City, Panama - Panamerican Boxing Confederation is pleased to announce the launch of the Panamerican Boxing Confederation Ringside Physician Certification Course, which will be held on November 17-18, 2026, at the Hotel El Panamá by Faranda in Panama City, Panama. The venue and event arrangements have been coordinated in conjunction with PBC activities surrounding the 2026 Congress.

This two-day educational program will be led by Dr. Bernardino Santi and Dr. Elvys Villarreal of PBC's Medical & Anti-Doping Committee, and is designed to strengthen medical expertise within boxing throughout the Americas and ensure a high standard of athlete care and safety at all PBC competitions.

Beginning in 2027, physicians wishing to serve as Ringside Physicians at Panamerican Boxing Confederation Continental-level competitions will be required to hold PBC Ringside Physician Certification (offered through this course). Physicians who have already obtained certification through World Boxing will also be eligible to serve at PBC events.

Course Objectives

The course will provide participants with comprehensive training on:

  • Governance and organizational structures within Olympic boxing

  • World Boxing medical regulations and responsibilities

  • Ringside physician duties before, during, and after competition

  • Emergency response and evacuation procedures

  • Concussion recognition and management

  • Medical decision-making during competition

  • Technical and practical ringside scenarios

  • Final certification assessment

The course is intended for licensed physicians interested in working within amateur Olympic-style boxing at the continental and international levels. It will be limited to 40 participants who have the endorsement of their National Federations.

Day 1 – November 17

Morning Session

  • Introduction to the organizations governing boxing within the Olympic Movement

  • World Boxing Rules

  • World Boxing Medical Handbook

  • Medical obligations and responsibilities of Ringside Physicians

  • Pre-bout, peri-bout, and post-bout medical procedures

Afternoon Session

  • Ringside procedures

  • Emergency evacuation training

  • Discussion and question period

Day 2 – November 18

Morning Session

  • Technical and medical case studies

  • "Stop Box" parameters and decision-making criteria

  • Concussion management

    • Glasgow Coma Scale

    • Red Flags

    • Maddocks Assessment

Afternoon Session

  • Practical exercises

  • Final certification examination

  • Course Registration: $300

  • Hotel (Single Occupancy): $195 per night - Recommended Stay: November 16-19 (3 nights)

  • Airport-Hotel Transfer: $40 each way ($80 total)

  • The hotel rate includes accommodation and three meals per day.
