GUIYANG, CHINA – Athletes representing the Panamerican Boxing Confederation (PBC) Members delivered a series of standout performances today during the opening sessions of the World Boxing Cup - Stage 2 in Guiyang, China. Facing elite international competition, boxers from across the Americas secured vital victories to advance in their respective tournaments.
The Panamerican contingent set a high standard early in the competition with several decisive victories:
Dominant Stoppages: Venezuela’s Wilson Solorzano made a massive statement in the Elite Men's 60Kg division, defeating Hong Kong's Ka Chun Lok via Referee Stops Contest (RSC) just 1 minute and 7 seconds into the second round.
Unanimous Blanks: In the Elite Women’s 75Kg division, Canada’s reigning star Tammara Thibeault put on a clinic, capturing a flawless unanimous decision victory over India’s Sanamacha Chanu Thokchom. Brazil’s Radija Gama also put on a flawless display in the Elite Women's 51Kg division, shutting out Hong Kong's Hoi Ming Sandy Lam.
Gritty Decisions: The USA's Salim Ellis Bey earned a hard-fought 3:2 split decision win against India's Anmol Anmol in a thrilling Elite Men's 60Kg bout. Mexico’s Valeria Amparan mirrored that success in the Elite Women's 51Kg class, outpointing Singapore's Danisha Mathialagan 4:1. Canada's Keoma Al-Ahmadieh edged out Mexico’s Harold Santos in the Elite Men’s 60Kg bout. Irismar Cardozo of Venezuela captured one of the fights of the day in a captivating 3:2 decision over Chuthamat Raskat of Thailand in an Elite Women’s 51Kg bout.
Heavyweight Power: In the Elite Men’s 90+Kg division, Brazil's Joel Ramos completely controlled the ring, securing a comfortable unanimous decision win against Australia's Alexander Shaw.
While the day brought stellar victories, the Americas also saw hard-fought battles that didn't go their way. The USA's Nnajai Wright fell to a close 5:0 decision against Kazakhstan's top-seeded Aibek Oralbay. Additionally, Brazil's Barbara Santos lost by walkover in her scheduled bout against South Korea's Suyeon Seong.
