SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Panamerican Boxing Confederation (PBC) is thrilled to recap an explosive second day of boxing action at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American & Caribbean Games. Yesterday’s schedule was packed with two competitive sessions featuring 21 thrilling bouts, including the first set of crucial quarterfinal matches.

Afternoon Session: Bera Triumphs for Hosts; Heavyweights Battle for Advancing Slots

The afternoon session began in the Elite Women’s 60kg division, where the host nation celebrated a massive victory. The Dominican Republic’s Katherine Jessica Bera Cabral delivered a superb performance, using her skill and footwork to defeat Nicaragua’s Leyla Borisha Bravo Peralta by a flawless unanimous decision.

The action intensified in the Elite Men's 70kg division. Terron Dontay Wintz of Guyana won a decisive 5-0 unanimous decision over Kyghan Mortley of St. Lucia. He was joined in victory by local hero Lisandro Jose Tejada Cordero of the Dominican Republic, who advanced via RSC in the second round against Venezuela’s Ricardo Cuello. Also moving forward in the 70kg bracket were Cuba's Yusnier Sorsano Ruiz, who pulled out an incredibly close 3-2 decision vs. Colombia, and Jamaica’s Tevoy Barrett, who earned a second-round RSC win over Haiti’s Robenson Celestin.

In the 80kg Elite Men’s class, multiple fighters advanced to the quarterfinals. The winners included Diego Andres Pereyra Mejia of Venezuela (5-0 vs. Mexico), Desmond Amsterdam of Guyana (RSC, R2), Haiti’s Cedrick Belony-Duliepre (4-1 vs. Guatemala), and Nicaragua’s Wilberth Jose Vega Rocha (RSC, R2).

Evening Session: Heavyweights Punch Ticket to Semifinals; Women's Quarterfinals Kick Off

The evening session featured 10 competitive bouts, including the first set of crucial quarterfinal matches. In the Elite Women’s 65kg division, four athletes punched their tickets to the next round. The winners included Venezuela’s Youly Joselis Mena Leon (5-0 vs. Colombia), Mexico's Darianne Hernandez Olvera (RSC, R3), Cindy Claudio of the U.S. Virgin Islands (3-2 decision vs. Puerto Rico), and Guatemala's María Victoria Chiroy Hernández (5-0 decision vs. Cuba).

The spotlight then turned to the Elite Men's 90+kg category, where the heavyweights made their debut in the quarterfinals. Colombia’s Juan Pablo Patiño made a loud statement by defeating the host nation’s Daniel Guzman by a clear 5-0 unanimous decision. Joining him in the semifinals was Cuba’s powerful Fernando Alejandro Arzola Lopez, who earned a dynamic third-round RSC over Guatemala’s Luis Rodrigo Guerra Lima.

Earlier in the session, in the Elite Men’s 65kg division, Puerto Rico’s Juliam Gabriel Ortiz Rivera won a decisive first-round RSC, while the Dominican Republic's Miguel Angel Encarnacion advanced following his opponent's third-round disqualification. Panama’s Cristofer Filos Vargas (RSC, R3) and Guyana’s Colin Lewis (5-0 decision vs. Barbados) also won their matches.

Day 3 Preview: Loaded Single Session with 12 Vital Quarterfinals

Today, August 3, 2026, will feature a single but intense session starting at 14:00, entirely dedicated to the quarterfinal phase. Fighters in three competitive weight classes will be competing for a guaranteed medal and a place on the podium. Marquee matches to look out for include:

Elite Women's 57kg: Top fighters from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, El Salvador, Cuba, and Guatemala will clash. A highly anticipated bout features Colombia’s Angie Carolina Biojo against Puerto Rico’s Coralis Cruz Rodriguez.
Elite Men's 55kg: This bracket is packed with elite talent. An all-Caribbean showdown pits Puerto Rico’s Joshua Noel Lorenzo Torres against the local favorite, Dominican Republic’s Junior Alcántara Reyes. Another explosive match features Cuba’s Alejandro Claro Fiz against Mexico’s Christopher Santos Mancilla.
Elite Men's 90kg: The heavyweight quarterfinals return, featuring formidable punchers like Colombia’s Jhojan Caicedo and Venezuela’s Alfonso Alfonso Blanco Parra. A pivotal match for the host nation will see Dominican Cristian Pinales fighting Emilio Molina Toral of Mexico for a guaranteed medal.
