CALGARY, CANADA – Panamerican Boxing Confederation (PBC) is pleased to announce plans for Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to host the 2nd and Final Pan American Games Qualifier and the U19 Continental Championships, both owned by PBC, alongside the Canada Cup, owned and managed by Boxing Canada, in March 2027.

The Calgary program will bring together elite boxers pursuing qualification for the Pan American Games and U19 male and female athletes competing for continental honours. A key opportunity is the potential for elite boxers eliminated early from the Qualifier and U19 boxers eliminated early from the Continental Championships to transition to the Canada Cup, extending their competitive experience in Calgary. This is an optional opportunity, not automatic entry, with an additional entry fee of CAD $20 for these boxers and participation subject to the Canada Cup schedule and entry arrangements.

PBC retains ownership of the Qualifier and U19 Continental Championships and Boxing Canada owns and managing the Canada Cup. Competition is expected to take place at the Genesis Centre, with the Best Western Premier Calgary Plaza Hotel serving as the proposed team hotel. Calgary International Airport will serve as the official international port of entry for participating delegations.

Shared Sport Entry, the Technical Meeting and the Draw for the two PBC events are planned for March 15. The proposed competition schedule is March 16–19, 2027 for the 2nd and Final Pan American Games Qualifier, March 16–21, 2027 for the U19 Continental Championships, and March 18–22, 2027 for the Canada Cup. Three quota spots per weight division are available at the 2nd and Final Pan American Games Qualifier: two for the National Federations/NOCs of the finalists and one for the winner of a box-off between the two losing semifinalists. National Federations that earned and accepted a quota at the 2026 Panamerican Elite Continental Championships in Puebla, Mexico are not eligible to enter athletes in the divisions for which those quotas were earned and accepted. The Qualifier will feature qualification box-offs rather than championship bouts. All dates remain subject to confirmation in the formal competition invitations to be distributed in the next week.

Elise Seignolle, President of the Panamerican Boxing Confederation, highlighted the opportunities the Calgary program offers for elite qualification, youth development and additional competition:

“Bringing together the second and final Pan American Games Qualifier and the U19 Continental Championships in Calgary is a great opportunity for boxing across the continent. While our elite athletes will be competing for their chance to qualify for the Pan American Games, our younger generation will have the opportunity to gain valuable international experience and continue developing their skills.

I believe it is important that we create opportunities for our athletes at every stage of their journey. We are very pleased to partner with Boxing Canada to bring these two events together, strengthen the collaboration among our National Federations, and continue building the future of boxing across our continent.”

The Canada Cup will feature U17, U19 and elite competition, with U17 boxers competing in the Canada Cup rather than the PBC U19 Continental Championships. Its overlap with the two PBC events creates the opportunity for eligible early-eliminated elite and U19 boxers to gain additional bouts rather than conclude their competitive program after an early loss. The Canada Cup is also seeking to include a proposed World Boxing Continental-level referee and judge certification opportunity, alongside opportunities for athlete development and international collaboration.

Formal invitations, registration instructions and confirmed schedules for the two PBC events will be communicated to PBC Member National Federations in the coming week.

“Boxing Canada is honored and incredibly excited to host the 2027 2nd Pan American Games Qualifier and U19 Continental Championships. Developing the next generation of boxers is critical to the future of our sport, and Calgary—with its rich Olympic and boxing history—is the perfect stage to showcase these talented young athletes. We look forward to welcoming athletes, coaches and officials from across the Americas and bringing Canadian fans together to create an unforgettable championship experience.” said Thomas Hennessey, President of Boxing Canada.
